TEACHERS' DAY......

Come September, and schools gear up to celebrate 5th September as Teachers' day. Birthday of Dr. Radhakrishnan, this day is solely dedicated to the that section of professionals, who build the pillars of a nation. A teacher is like a potter who shapes young minds, a farmer, who sows the seeds of values to plant a tree of humanity. The role of a teacher is not restricted to textbooks, evaluation and exams, it extends beyond the horizons of the classroom and actually nourishes the mind with humanitarian values of honesty, sincerity, truthfulness, modesty, confidence, and diligence. Though the profession of teaching is most honourable and valued in terms of quality, it is not complimented adequately in terms of monetary benefits. Most teachers are underpaid, and exploited in terms of reward thus leading to derogation in the standard and quality. This is the most ironical fact in our country, leaving one to wonder whether we really give importance to education. People joining this profession do so either as the only option left in their choice of career, or just to while away time. Unless taken seriously, and contemplated to increase the monetary value of this profession, the impact will be felt on the quality of all other professions, as the outcome of product has its origin on the quality of this profession.
